Frequently asked questions

What is a doula?

Doulas are trained birth professionals who help support pregnant women and their families through the prenatal, birth and postpartum stages of pregnancy. They serve as advocates and spokespeople for women as they navigate their various OBGYN appointments and big decisions when it comes to giving birth.

At the end of the day, a doula’s job is to ensure not only a healthy delivery, but that the new mom feels cared for and that her needs and hopes for her ideal birth scenario are met.

How many clients can you take a month?

To provide the utmost quality of care to my clients, I take on about two to three clients a month. This ensures I’m able to be fully present and available to each of the incredible women I serve – and their support people who surround them, as well.

Do you attend hospital and/or birth center births?

Yes! I’m always happy to support births at hospitals and birth centers.

Do you attend home births?

I will gladly attend a home birth, but a midwife or another trained medical professional must be present as well.

What’s the difference between a doula and a midwife?

A doula provides emotional, educational and physical support throughout a pregnancy, birth and postpartum season for both the new mama and her family members. A midwife’s role falls in the medical sphere and prioritizes the health and safety of a mama and her new baby.

Where do you serve?

I currently serve clients for in-person care in Richmond, Virginia and nearby areas. I am happy to support those wishing to take part in virtual education and coaching sessions anywhere in the world.

Will insurance cover my doula services?

Depending on the type of health coverage you have, your insurance may reimburse you for your doula services. You may also cover the costs of doula services with your HSA or HRA accounts with a letter of medical necessity from your doctor.
