“As husbands go, I was very prepared for each of my children's births. I knew the lingo, I knew helpful positions to labor in, I knew I was going get yelled at and then immediately apologized to followed by more yelling (contractions come and go). I read the birth plan and limbered up for hip squeezing and being used as a human railing when my wife wanted to squat and hold me around the neck for support.
But, all the classes, reading, and videos can't prepare a man to see the one he loves in pain nor to balance all the many emotions of labor and birth. I can't speak to what having a Doula like Cece meant to my wife - but for me, it was the difference between feeling alone versus feeling supported. Feeling unsure versus feeling confident in my ability to support my wife.
Cece is prepared, thoughtful, capable, level-headed in the midst of high stress, and a comfort to work with, through several births now - all different than the last.”
